Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 27, 2026 — Last Updated: May 31, 2026
BellSense (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the BellSense mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use the App.
We may update this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how BellSense collects, uses, and protects your data in connection with the use of the App and related hardware.
2. Information We Collect
A. Account Information
- Name
- Email address
- Login credentials
B. Workout & Sensor Data
- Repetition counts
- Exercise type
- Session duration and timestamps
- Performance metrics derived from motion sensor (IMU) data
- Heart rate data when a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor is connected
If the “Contribute Training Data” setting is enabled, a raw binary recording of your motion-sensor readings is uploaded to our secure cloud infrastructure to help improve exercise detection. This setting is on by default; you can turn it off during onboarding or anytime in Settings → Personal Info → Contribute Training Data. See Section 5 for details.
C. User Feedback & Readiness Check-In Data
- Subjective workout feel ratings (1–5 scale)
- Daily readiness check-in inputs you provide — such as overall readiness, energy, soreness, and sleep quality
- Free-text notes
- Manual rep count corrections
D. Health Data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
If you choose to connect Apple Health, BellSense reads the following metrics, with your permission, to calculate your daily readiness score:
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Resting heart rate
- Sleep duration
Connecting Apple Health is optional. You grant access through Apple’s standard Health permission prompt, and you can review or revoke it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BellSense. The App only reads these metrics — it never writes data back to Apple Health.
Your raw Apple Health data (HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep duration) is processed only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers or stored in our cloud. To sync your readiness history across your devices, we store only the resulting readiness score and its component sub-scores (normalized values that do not contain your raw Apple Health measurements).
We do not use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties. Apple Health data is used solely to provide the readiness and recovery features within the App, consistent with Apple’s HealthKit requirements.
E. Device & Diagnostic Data
- Device model
- iOS version
- App version
- Crash reports
- Performance logs
F. Analytics Data
- Usage behavior
- Feature interaction
- Aggregated analytics via Firebase
3. Services Used
BellSense uses Google Firebase for authentication, cloud data storage, file storage, analytics, and crash reporting. This includes Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Firebase Storage, and Crashlytics. Data may be processed on secure cloud infrastructure operated by Google.
4. How We Use Information
- Provide workout tracking functionality
- Generate performance analytics
- Sync workout history across devices
- Improve rep detection and fatigue prediction accuracy
- Build personalized movement baselines
- Calculate your daily readiness and recovery score from your check-in inputs and, if connected, Apple Health metrics
- Debug crashes and improve stability
- Communicate product updates
- Respond to support inquiries
Session performance data (including rep metrics, velocity trends, fatigue patterns, subjective feel ratings, and readiness sub-scores) — and, unless you turn off Training Data Contribution, the raw motion-sensor recordings described in Section 5 — may be used to train and improve the machine learning models that power in-app features. This data is stored under and linked to your account (it is pseudonymous — identified by an internal account ID rather than your name or email) and is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Your raw Apple Health data is excluded from this processing — it never leaves your device.
Your readiness score is provided for general training and wellness guidance only. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any health condition.
5. Optional Training Data Contribution
To help improve exercise-detection accuracy, BellSense contributes a raw recording of your motion-sensor (IMU) stream from each workout to our secure cloud. This setting is on by default and is disclosed during onboarding; you can turn it off at any time — during onboarding or later via Settings → Personal Info → Contribute Training Data.
Uploaded recordings contain motion-sensor data only (accelerometer, gyroscope, and derived motion values) — never audio, video, or location. Each file is stored under and linked to your internal account ID; it is pseudonymous, not anonymous, and is not sold or shared with third parties.
Turning the setting off stops all future captures immediately; it does not delete recordings already uploaded. Deleting your account removes your contributed recordings along with your other data (see Section 8). To request earlier deletion of uploaded files, contact support@bellsense.app.
6. Data Storage
Workout and account data are stored locally on your device and in secure cloud infrastructure. Reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards are implemented to protect your data.
Raw Apple Health data is an exception: it is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our cloud. Only your derived readiness score and its normalized sub-scores are synced.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Data may be shared with service providers strictly for hosting, analytics, or infrastructure support, or if required by law.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain data only as long as necessary to provide services.
Users may delete their account and all associated data — including readiness history, derived readiness scores, and any contributed training-data recordings — at any time via Settings → Delete Account, or by contacting support@bellsense.app.
To stop BellSense from reading Apple Health data, revoke access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BellSense; your raw Apple Health data remains on your device under Apple’s control.
9. Beta Testing
During beta testing via TestFlight, Apple may provide crash logs and limited diagnostic information. This section will be removed upon full App Store release.
10. Children's Privacy
BellSense is not intended for individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
